A long term issue for VF has always been the amount of space that the MySQL database is using. In a constant effort to keep the amount of space being taken down I've implemented various link checking scripts over the years to remove threads with dead and obsolete links which are many for this type of forum.
Here are a few notes about the link checker and the removal of threads...
- If a thread has 50% or more of its links found to be dead, the thread in question is moved to a forum only viewable to staff for inspection.
- Once the "graveyard" forum is relatively full it will be emptied and the space taken by the dead threads will be freed
- Once a thread has been deleted from the graveyard, it's contents cannot be retrieved
- Checks are done at two times daily...at 12PM and 12 AM checking 75 threads each which is enough to cover VFs daily 150+ threads however more run times are easily scheduled when required
- For the the next 24 hours (after this post) the script will run every 10 minutes to make up and sort through the 10 000+ threads VF currently has.
If you encounter any issues regarding the link checker please contact me as this is a brand new script and may require multiple reconfigurations
Disregard any emails or PMs from the system regarding dead links as they are a result of mass thread investigation
All PMs will be deleted as planned in this thread -

Update - All links up until right now (1:22 PM Feb. 7th 2010) have been checked and dead threads have been removed from the system.
